Greenwich Village Dayton Ohio

Greenwich Village is a neighborhood of the city of Dayton Ohio. It is roughly bounded by N Gettysburg Avenue to the east, W Hillcrest Avenue to the north, Wolf Creek Pike/N James H McGee Boulevard to the west, and Little Richmon Road to the south. 

The neighborhood is next to Fort McKinley which is just to the northeast and Trotwood on the other side of the interstate. It is also a relatively short drive northwest of downtown Dayton. The area has a sparse urban feeling allowing for a quieter atmosphere removed from the center of the city. 

The population of Greenwich Village is about 2,146 people. The median home value is $39,578 with is well below the national average of $217,500. The median rent is $734. About 55% of the people living in this neighborhood own their homes. Niche.com ranks Greenwich Village as #14 out of 55 in the most affordable Dayton neighborhood. 

History of Greenwich Village

Greenwich Village is named after the town of Greenwich in Connecticut. Many of the earliest inhabitants of the neighborhood relocated here from Connecticut after the Revolutionary War when much of the area lay in devastation. Many of these earliest inhabitants were farmers in Connecticut finding a new life after their farms had turned into what was called "the Firelands." 

Americans from Greenwich Connecticut were given grants from the United States government for land in the North Central section of Ohio. 

Schools 

The public schools that serve the Greenwich Village neighborhood are part of the South Central School District. This public school district serves both Greenwich and the North Fairfield neighborhoods. Some of the schools that are zoned for the neighborhood include Stivers School for the Arts, River's Edge Montessori, Belmont High, and Valerie Elementary.
