History of the town of Kettering

Kettering got its beginnings in the late 1700s as farmland and was slowly settled through the mid-1800s. Kettering began to see significant population growth which spurred the creation of Van Buren Township in 1841. The town of Kettering was then incorporated into the township. It was only a village at the time of incorporation. By 1955 the population of the village grew large enough to claim status as a city. Kettering officially became a city on June 24, 1955. Kettering continued to grow seeing significant growth after World War II as several Dayton residents moved out to the suburb for a more quiet lifestyle.
